Cadillac has unveiled its 2017 XT5 mid-size crossover SUV at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November 2015, the first of 4 new SUVs from General Motors' luxury unit to replace the outgoing SRX where it will take on the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Audi Q5, Lexus RX and Acura RDX.

Boasting an entirely new platform, the XT5 is more than 278 lbs (126kg) lighter than the SRX and will be powered by the new 3.6L V-6 engine currently found in the brand’s ATS, CTS, and CT6 models.

An eight-speed automatic transmission will come fitted as standard on the XT5, featuring Electronic Precision Shift – the first electronically controlled transmission shifter for a Cadillac that works to diminish noise and vibration while permitting further use of cabin space.

To help you save money on fuel and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the all-new XT5 comes loaded with fuel-saving technologies such as Active Fuel Management and Automatic Stop/Start technology

“While these new systems increase efficiency, a main focus in engineering at Cadillac is to integrate these systems smoothly with no compromise to the driving experience,” says David Leone, executive chief engineer at Cadillac. “Our new 8-speed transmission was developed internally for fast and smooth shifting in every situation with Cylinder Deactivation and Start/Stop are integrated in a more seamless manner than our competitors."

Cadillac’s new rear camera mirror system will also make its debut on both the 2017 XT5 and CT6 sedan. By using a highly dynamic video display applied over the conventional inside rearview mirror, the new system enhances a driver's rear view vision by 300% by projecting an unobstructed view.

With the luxury crossover segment being white-hot as of late, Cadillac hopes to build a strong foundation in this market with the XT5, the first of a new generation of Cadillac crossover models to be given the “XT” designation.

The XT5 will be manufactured in the US and China in the spring of 2016 and is on display at the Los Angeles Convention Center this November 20-29.
